Abstract
Additives are introduced into molten metal by causing the latter to flow beneath a hopper containing the former, the hopper having an aperture initially closed by a seal which is destroyed by the molten metal. The addition of ferro-silicon, other ferro-alloys, carbon, copper, desulphurizing agents, and inoculating and nodularizing agents for cast iron is referred to; the hopper may be made of cardboard, plastic or metal foil.
