Abstract
1,022,885. Data transmission. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Feb. 18, 1964 [Feb. 21, 1963], No. 6703/64. Heading H4P. In a data processor associated with a number of incoming and outgoing circuits there is provided a magnetic tape loop general memory comprising message sections which are sequentially and cyclically accessible to reading and recording means, a waiting memory in which are stored, in accordance with the order in which the transducers have access to the general memory sections, the requests for access to or transmission from the general memory, and a programme memory. Each incoming message is preceded by start of message symbols which are recognized, whereby a tape access request is generated and stored, this request including a tape section address which is the address of the first free section-the free addresses are stored in a core matrix address memory. As each tape section appears under the writing head, the address of the section is compared with the requests and addresses stored in the waiting file, and equality allows the associated characters (part of a message being received) stored in the incoming line memory to be transferred to that section. The remainder of the message will be associated with the same address. Transmission from the tape to an outgoing line (selected by means not described) takes place in an analogous manner.
