Abstract

1,022,587. Panelling walls. FORMICA INTERNATIONAL Ltd. Dec. 7, 1964 [Sept. 16, 1963], No. 36289/63. Heading E1V. A method of mounting a panel 16 comprising for example hardboard, asbestos cement or plywood comprises the steps of adhesively attaching to substrate 1 an intermediary comprising a plurality of spaced-apart non-metallic pliable and/or malleable strips or pieces 3 for example of hardboard, mechanically impacting said strips or pieces so that they conform with at least some of the irregularities, C, X, 18 of the underlying part of the surface of the substrate, and adhesively securing the panel to the intermediary. The intermediary includes strips arranged at least around the major portion of the panel periphery, and may also include additional strips or pieces located inwardly of the strips at the panel periphery and positioned to avoid substantial surface irregularities. The juxtaposed edges of adjacent panels are supported on a common strip 3 with an expansion gap left between the edges to receive a capping strip. The adhesive between the intermediary and the substrate and panels is preferably an impact adhesive.
