A moulding mixture comprises 60-85% by weight of comminuted zirconium or a zirconium compound e.g. zircon, and 15-40% by weight of a comminuted compound of alumina and silica e.g. andalusite, cyanite or disthene, sillimanite, fibrolite or mullite. The moulding may be made into a slurry and moulded as described in Specification 1,021,600 which is referred to.
