Abstract

1,021,222. Feeding record tapes. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Nov. 21, 1962 [Nov. 30, 1961], No. 32548/64. Divided out of 1,021,221. Heading G5R. [Also in Division G3] A magnetic tape 7, handling digital information, is driven by a motor 6 on the take-up spool 3 regulated by the tape-speed, tape-tension sensing means 18 acting on a potentiometer 20 to control the back-torque of a motor 5 on the feed-spool 2. A toothed ferrous wheel on rollers 13 (not shown) acton transducer 22, to generate pulses which are compared with the input pulse-rate on recording to drive the tape around an arm 19 whose position can be locked, while compliance-arm tape-tension sensing mean 18 operate potentiometer 20. For reverse driving, arm 18 is locked, another toothed ferrous wheel on roller 8 acts on a transducer 22<SP>1</SP> and arm 19 is freed to operate potentiometer 20<SP>1</SP>. Tape-guide means 24-31 and Fig. 2 (not shown) are detailed and claimed in the parent Specification.
