Abstract
1,021,102. Phase shifters. BENDIX CORPORATION. March 23, 1964 [April 8, 1963], No. 12214/64. Heading H1W. A variable microwave phaseshifter for a coaxial transmission line comprises an outer conductor 12 enclosing an axial ferrite or yttrium-iron garnet rod 10 around which is wound a helical conductor 19. The polepieces 32, 34 of a variable electromagnet provide a transverse magnetic field. It is stated that a change in the magnetic field produces a change of phase-shift which is constant over a large frequency band. The phaseshift is reciprocal. The pitch of the helix may be increased at its ends 24 where it is joined to cylindrical conductors 14. Gadolinium substituted yttrium iron garnet may be used for the element 10.
