[Also in Division D1] A cable, wire or other flexible element is bound with tape by a device having two arms 1, 6, the arm 1 having guide means 2 for the tape fed to such a position that it may be taken up by securing means 7 on arm 6. In operation the arms are closed over the element to be bound and the tongs formed by arm 7 and the side of arm 6 grips the tape end 4 so that when the arms 1, 6 are opened with the tape stretching therebetween and the device is withdrawn from the element, the element is wrapped with a turn of tape, with the ends of the turn being held between arm ends 10. The arms 1, 6 are then closed for tool 13 to cut the tape and for heating coils 12, connected to a power supply by an automatically actuated switch 15 through contact 14, to weld the tape ends together.
