Abstract

Wax deposition in crude petroleum is inhibited by adding a composition comprising (a) a polyalkylene glycol monoalkylether, (b) an alkylene glycol monoalkylether and (c) a polyoxyalkylene ether of an alkyl phenol in a weight ratio of from 1:1:1 to 1:3:2 respectively. The preferred components are diethylene glycol monoethylether, ethylene glycol monobutylether and polyxyethylene nonylphenol ether in a weight ratio of 1:2:1 to which is added water, e.g. 3 vols. per vol. of composition. The composition may be flushed down oil wells prior to pumping or added in slugs to transfer lines or storage tanks.
