Abstract
The invention comprises the use, as antistatic agents, of siloxanes containing sulphate ester groups which are described in Specification 942,812. Further examples of their preparation are given.ALSO:The surface of a body of plastic material is rendered antistatic by treating it with a siloxane containing the unit SiMOSO3X, wherein M is an alkylene or substituted alkylene radical of at least 3 C atoms, and X is H, a metal equivalent of H or an ammonium or substituted ammonium group. The siloxanes are described in Specification 942,812 (See Div. C3). The siloxanes may be used in the form of aqueous and/or alcoholic solutions or in the form of aerosols which are suitable for treating large surfaces, e.g. textiles of synthetic fibres, such as curtains, rugs and wearing apparel. If desired the siloxane can be permanently fixed on textile fibres, by treating them with the siloxane in conjunction with a fixing agent, e.g. zirconium oxychloride or acetate, with subsequent thermal curing. In Example (2) the siloxane was worked into a spinning preparation for polyester fibres. Mention is also made of the use of the p siloxanes in preparations for the setting of human hair.ALSO:The surface of a body of plastic material is rendered antistatic by treating it with a siloxane containing the unit SiMOSO3X, wherein M is an alkylene or substituted alkylene radical of at least 3 C atoms and X is H, a metal equivalent of H or an ammonium or substituted ammonium group. The siloxanes are described in Specification 942,812 (see Division C3). The siloxane may be used in the form of an aqueous or alcoholic solution, e.g. by wiping the surface of a photographic film or gramophone record with a cloth impregnated with a solution of the siloxane, or by immersing plates or records in solutions of the siloxane, or by spraying in the form of an aerosol. In examples, (1) a gramophone record made from a mixture of polyvinylchloride and polyvinylacetate was treated with an aqueous-alcoholic solution of the siloxane; (3) polyvinylchloride plates, and (4) polyethylene plates were dipped in aqueous and aqueous-alcoholic solutions, respectively, of the siloxane and heat dried.
