Abstract
1,020,211. Cold accumulators. PORTERLANCASTRIAN Ltd. Feb. 26, 1962 [Nov. 26, 1960], No. 40707/60. Heading F4H. A cold accumulating device comprises two conduits holding a coolant and an eutectic material respectively, the conduits being located between plates at least one of which is grooved to receive the conduits. The eutectic material may be acetic acid or ethylene glycol solution. As described, such devices are used in the walls of thermally insulated tanks for the transport of liquids, the coolant conduits being connected up to a refrigerating circuit before the journey and the liquid then being maintained at the required low temperature by the latent thermal capacity of the eutectic. The devices may be constructed generally as described in Specifications 769,929, 826,624, 826,625, and 852,416. In a construction similar to that of Specification 826,625, the D-shaped tube 3, Fig. 3, is filled with the eutectic and contains an inner coolant tube 8 which may be coiled (as shown) or follow directly the line of the tube 3. In another form (Fig. 4, not shown), the tube 3 is divided by a partition 9 into coolant and eutectic carrying portions.
