Abstract
1,019,962. Vacuum-insulated double-walled vessels. N.F.C. ENGINEERING CO. Oct. 12, 1962 [Oct. 16, 1961], No. 38808/62. Heading F4U. In a method of producing a vacuum-insulated, double-walled vessel having inner and outer shells A, B with an evacuated space I between them, the shells are brought together and joined to form the vessel in an evacuated chamber consisting of two separable parts 25, 36 (Fig. 1, not shown). As shown, the respective shells A, B are formed with joint faces E, U which are cemented together. In carrying out the method, shell A is held by suction in the part 25 of the chamber and shell B is held on a plunger in the part 36 of the chamber. The parts 25, 36 with the shells A, B in position are brought together to form the chamber and the arrangement is such that the chamber is formed and evacuated before the joint faces of the shells A and B meet. The final movement to cause the joint faces of shells A and B to abut and complete the vessel, is made by the plunger. Air is then admitted to the chamber to enable its two parts to be separated so that the completed vessel may be removed. The outer shell A may be transparent and may have its inner surface coated with a heat-reflecting layer of metallic lacquer or metal foil.
