Abstract
1,019,239. Road and railway vehicles; securing load in bulk; removable bodies. EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURING Inc. Nov. 3, 1962, No. 41665/62. Headings B7B and B7L. Cargo is secured in a coad or rail vehicle body rontainer 20, Fig. 1, by a dunnage bar 24 extending between the side walls 21, 22, the latter being formed with a series of corrugations 28, 31, 33, 34 (see also Fig. 2) having spaced along the lengths thereof connector elements, in the form of ribs 42, Figs. 3 and 5, for engagement by connector elements 62 provided at the ends of the bar, each end of the bar thus being engageable with one or two corrugations and retained against movement both transversely and longitudinally of the corrugations. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, a pair of elements 62 is secured to one end of the bar whilst another pair of elements 62 is movably secured to the other end under the urge of springs 55. Each pair of elements 62 is offset with respect to an end plate 60 in such a manner that the bar is capable of adjustment both vertically and longitudinally of the side walls by increments equal to half the width of the corrugations 70. The various positions which a plate 60 may adopt are shown in dotted, dashed and cross lines, in Fig. 5. Each element 62 can either engage a pair of opposed ribs 42 or between two pairs of opposed ribs 42. The increment of adjustment may not be obtainable at the junctions of vertical and horizontally extending corrugations as shown in Fig. 2 but may be substantially attained by adjustment of the vertical corrugation horizontally of the horizontal corrugations, as described with reference to Fig. 6 (not shown). In another embodiment, each side wall is formed of inner and outer corrugations welded together. According to a modification the connector elements on the corrugations may be grooves instead of ribs and complementary elements on the ends of the bar are then provided with enlarged corners to engage the grooves. In this case the increment of adjustment is equal to a corrugation width in the horizontal direction, and half such width, in the vertical direction.
