Abstract

1,018,493. Radiation detectors. ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. June 7, 1962 [June 8, 1961], No. 20767/61. Heading G1A. [Also in Divisions H1 and H3] A solid state radiation detector has a p-n junction biased so that electron ion pair multiplication occurs in the detector. The p-n junction is in series with a load resistor RL across which the output is taken to pulse counting means. Alternatively, Fig. 2, (not shown) the output may be taken across the p-n junction. The detector may be enclosed with the radiation source in a vacuum and may be cooled by liquid air, solid carbon dioxide. The detector may be used for X-ray spectrometry, Bragg reflection analysis and for beta and gamma ray detection.
