Abstract

A lubricating base oil consists of a solvent treated naphthene based fraction having a viscosity of at least 75 c.s. at 50 DEG C. and a solvent treated dewaxed paraffin fraction having a viscosity not exceeding 22 c.s. at 50 DEG C. Detergent inhibitors and viscosity index improvers, e.g. methacrylate polymerizates may be added.
