Abstract

1,018,285. Centrifuges. M.S.E. HOLDINGS Ltd. Oct. 16, 1964 [Oct. 17, 1963], No. 41134/63. Heading B2P. [Also in Division G3] An automatic system for controlling the temperature of a centrifuge apparatus comprises a mercury-in-steel probe 13 for sensing the temperature of the centrifuge and a reversible refrigeration system 9 comprising a compressor 9a, a fan cooled condenser and a heat exchanger 8 arranged around the bowl 1 of the centrifuge, the sensing probe 13 being arranged to operate a valve 10, by way of a Bourdon tube setting switch 16 and relays 19, 21, which reverses the operation of the refrigeration system 9 when the centrifuge attains a preset temperature. The centrifuge comprising arms 3 is driven by a motor 4, containers 5 being pivoted on the arms 3 at 6. The bowl 1 has a double wall filled with thermal insulation 7, a lid 11 also having thermal insulation 12 on its inner surface.
