Abstract

101,711. British Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Fortescue C. Le G.). Oct. 7, 1915, [Convention date]. Vapour and vacuum or low-pressure apparatus, arrangements of.-In a system of electric distribution in which a direct-current work circuit is supplied from an alternating-current circuit through a current rectifying device, a fault on the direct-current circuit causes the operation of a circuit-breaker in the alternating-current circuit, so that the supply of energy to the direct-current circuit is interrupted without actually breaking this circuit. In the arrangement shown, a directcurrent railway circuit 9, 10 receives current, rectified by passing through the vapour rectifier 7, from the secondary 4 of a transformer connected across an alternating-current source 1. The anodes 5, 6 of the rectifier are connected across the secondary 4, and the cathode connected to the direct-current main 10. The circuit-breaker 12 is located in the primary of the transformer, and its trip coil 13 is connected in series with a condenser 14 across the direct-current circuit, so that in case of a short circuit or ground, the condenser discharges and energizes the trip coil.
