[Also in Division G2] In a method of making photographic prints from transparent or opaque subjects at least one of the quantities of blue, green and red light incident upon the subject depends on the integrated transmittance or reflectance of the subject both for the corresponding colour and at least one other colour. Part of the light from a source 1 passing through a transparency 2 is deflected to photo-cells 5 sensitive to blue, green and red light respectively. The outputs of cells 5 is fed through logarithmic amplifiers 6 to a computer 7 which derives the quantity of light for each colour Ei according to the equation: - where Di,j,k are the integrated transmittances of the transparency to blue, green and red light, a i is a constant, b i the correction co-efficient and c i d i are cross-correction co-efficients. The outputs of computer 7 are fed through antilogarithmic amplifiers 8 to colour control means. In a particular embodiment, c i = di = (1-b i )/2, the result of which is the application of full correction to average (grey) transparencies and reduced correction to transparencies exhibiting colour subject failure. The invention is applicable to additive or subtractive printing systems using simultaneous or sequential exposures.
