Abstract

1,016,413. Measure tapes. ETABLISSEMENTS QUENOT & CIE S. a. r. L. April 1, 1964 [Nov. 14,1963; Feb. 12, 1964], No. 13360/64. Heading G1M. A casing 1, housing a coiled steel measure tape 19, comprises a grooved moulding 7 separating bottom and cover parts 5, 6 and includes an intermediate part 3. A stud 10, projecting from the part 3, is slotted at 11 to receive the end of a return spring 18 which is then coiled round the stud 10 between two discs 16,17. These discs are rotatable on the stud 10 and their peripheral edges 21, 20 serve as a drum round which the tape 19 is coiled after one end has been joined to the spring 18. The moulding 7 may be formed in a peripheral flange of the part 3 and the tape 19 may pass out of the casing 1 through a slot 24 Fig. 1 (not shown) in a reinforcement 25 in the flange 4. A rigid L- shaped tongue 26 is secured over the outer end of the tape 19. Screws 14, 15 in tapped holes in the stud 10 hold the parts together including discs 27, 28 which may be inscribed. The casing parts 5, 6 and discs 27, 28 are metal and the parts 3,16,17 and 25 are plastic, preferably nylon,which smooths the movement of the tape 19 and reduces abrasion. In one modification the moulding 7 is separate from the part 3 which is not flanged. In another the upper surface of the outlet reinforcement is curved concavely to suit the cross-section of the tape.
