Abstract

1,016,265. Electrophotographic copying apparatus. RANK XEROX Ltd. Jan. 9,1963 [Jan 9, 1962], No. 1095/63. Headings G2A and G2H. In a xerographic reproducing apparatus the xerographic plate and copy carrier are in the form of drums 29, 19, Fig. 5, the two drums being mounted for synchronous rotation about a common shaft 58 and coupled together by pins 77, Fig. 6 (not shown). An optical system 20, Fig. 5, is mounted adjacent the drums 29, 19 for projecting an image of an original on the drum 19 on to the drum 29. Originals are fed through a slot 11, Fig. 4, (not shown) under a transparent plate 54, past the mirror 21 of optical system 20 and out through a slot 12. Lamps LMP1 and LMP2 illuminate the original for projecting an image of the original on to the drum 29. The surface of drum 29 comprises a layer of photo conductive material on a conductive backing that is sensitized by means of a corona device 30 prior to exposure, e.g. as described in Specification 826,088. An electrostatic latent image remaining on the drum after exposure passes developing apparatus 31, Fig. 3, wherein developing material 32 including toner 35 is fed to a shoot 34 by a conveyer 33. The powder image formed passes a lamp LMP3 and is electrostatically transferred by a second corona device 42 to a support surface 41, e.g. paper, previously inserted in a slot 13 and fed by belts 45, 48. The support surface 41 is separated from the drum 29 by a doctor blade 47 and fed past a fusing apparatus 49 having resistors 51 which permanently fix the powder image. The drum 29 is brushed clean of developing material by a brush 52. Any remaining electrostatic charge is removed from the drum surface by a lamp LMP4. The apparatus is controlled by a circuit Fig. 7 (not shown).
