Abstract
1,016,091. Making polyester filaments. TOGO RAYON KABUSHIKI KAISHA. July 8, 1963 [July 10, 1962], No. 26998/63. Heading B5B. A highly shrinkable polyester filament is produced by copolymerizing a mixture of (a) a reaction product of ethylene glycol with terephthalic acid or a lower alkyl ester thereof; and (b) a reaction product of ethylene glycol with a dicarboxylic acid other than terephthalic having the general formula where X is a hydrocarbon radical having at least one aromatic ring, Y is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a lower alkyl radical, and n is zero or an integer, or a lower alkyl ester thereof, (a) and (b) being in the proportion of at least 95 mol. per cent of (a) and not more than 5 mol. per cent of (b), melt-spinning the resulting linear co-polyester and thereafter stretching the resulting filament at a stretch ratio of 2À5 to 5À5 at 60‹ to 100‹ C. The said dicarboxylic acid may be isophthalic acid, naphthalene-2,6-dicarboxylic acid phthalic acid, 5-methyl isophthalic acid, diphenic acid, or a substituted isomer of any of them.
