Abstract

An insecticidal composition comprises a granular low-sorptive carrier material having coated upon the surface of the particles a synthetic thermoplastic resin or a thermoplastic cellulose derivative and an insecticidal phosphate ester having the formula:- <FORM:1015933/A5-A6/1> wherein each R represents a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon group, with the proviso that the groups R may be bound to each other forming adivalent hydrocarbon group, and M represents a group of formula:- <FORM:1015933/A5-A6/2> or <FORM:1015933/A5-A6/3> wherein each R1 represents H, Cl, Br or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon group, with the proviso that the groups R1 may be bound to each other so forming a divalent hydrocarbon group, R11 represents Cl, Br or a substituted or unsubstituted hydrocarbon group or a carbo aliphaticoxy e.g. an alkoxy alkyleneoxy carbonyl or carbalkoxy group, an R-O group an acyloxy alkoxy carbonyl group wherein the acyl group has the formula <FORM:1015933/A5-A6/4> or a group <FORM:1015933/A5-A6/5> where m and n are 0-2 and m+n=Z. and Z represents Cl or Br. The hydrocarbon groups referred to may be alkyl, cyclo alkyl, aryl or aralkyl groups and may be substituted by Cl, Br, NO2, <FORM:1015933/A5-A6/6> -OR or p-chlorophenyl sulphoxyl groups. Numerous polyolefinic cornpounds. Cellulose esters and cellulose ethers are specified for coating the granules. Specified granular carriers are sand, sulphur, pyrophyllite, dolomite, gypsum, talc, pumice, kaolinite, clay, crushed granite, crushed walnut shells, and sugar. The insecticide may be present in the resin or on the surface thereof. The resin may contain a plasticizer therefore e.g. alrialkyl and/or aryl phosphate ester; phthalate esters, sebacates ad, pates, hydrogenated polyphenyls, alkylated aromatic hydrocarbons, and polyesters of hexanediol and sebacic or adipic acid of M. Wt of the order of 2,000. The compositions may contain dyes, pigments, lubricants, fillers, antioxidants, and phenolic stabilizers for the insecticide e.g. phenol, cresols, hydroquinone, naphthols, resorcinol and pyrogallol.
