Abstract

1,015,605. Coil making apparatus. USESOIUZNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT ELECTROMEHANIKY (VNIIEM). June 23, 1962, No. 14260/62. Heading B3A. In a stator winding machine, each formerwound coil is held in a gap in one of a number of similar mandrels rotating about a common axis, and the stator is then moved to a suitable position for insertion of the coil. Unwound stators are taken from a conveyer belt by a transfer device (Fig. 8, not shown) and clamped in a support 11, Fig. 2, the fully wound stator being returned to the conveyer belt. The winding machine consists of a six-mandrel circular indexing table 3 and a winding device 8 powered by motor 10. Each of the six mandrels consists of a fixed outer casing 80, Fig. 4, secured to the rotatable indexing table 3 (Fig. 3, not shown). Casing 80 contains a slidable shoe 83 connected to a slide 85 through a slot in the casing. The slide 85 is actuated by a roller bearing 86 in a cam groove of cam 35. The coil former 6 is carried on a splined shaft 88 passing through slide 85 and actuated by another roller follower 89 in another cam groove of cam 35. The former 6 (shown in the winding position) consists of a block 90, a movable wedge 91 attached to shaft 88, and a pad 92. A device for winding single layer or multi-layer coils on former 6, Fig. 6, has the winding wire fed down through hollow spindle 103 to the flyer 8 and then on to the former. The vertical movement of the flyer 8 is controlled from cam 27 via lever 26, the rotational movement being supplied by motor 10, Fig. 2, driving pulley 124, which can rotate freely on the shaft and can be engaged by clutch 24. This clutch is controlled from cylinder 25 by lever 125, to engage the drive pulley 124 or apply a brake 126. When the coil is wound, the machine moves out of the winding station and the winding is moved downwards so that the right-hand part of the coil is moved into gap 95, Fig. 4. The former and the slide 82 continue to move downwards and the wedge 91 is withdrawn from the former and the coil is left freely suspended with an end in gap 95. With the mandrel in the coil-insertion station the stator is lowered to insert the coil. The coil formers may be of different size so that coils of different pitch may be wound, and the actuating cylinders may be operated by compressed gas or hydraulic means, or electrical devices may be used.
