Abstract

A composite dielectric covering for electric conductor wires, comprises an inner layer of vulcanized ethylene/propylene rubber composition bonded to an outer layer of a vulcanized chlorosulphonated polyethylene composition. Optionally an additional layer of chlorosulphonated polyethylene may be applied between the wire and the ethylene/propylene rubber layer. The ethylene/propylene rubber may be derived from ethylene and propylene with/without diene, and may comprise a blend with butyl rubber. In examples the following ingredients are contained in the various layers: whiting, carbon black, clay, red lead, litharge, zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, magnesium oxide, pigments, softeners, paraffin wax and vulcanizing agents.
