Abstract

1,014,480. Boring earth &c. AMERICAN COLDSET CORPORATION & CORE LABORATORIES Inc. Nov. 19, 1964, No. 47132/ 64. Heading E1F. Apparatus for cutting and recovering samples from the side wall of a borehole 14 comprises a body 11 supporting cutting means 12, 13 normally located within the body but outwardly and longitudinally movable to engage the wall and cut a sample of triangular cross-section. The cutting means comprises rotary wheels which are movable through an opening 50 to engage and cut the wall whilst the body is fixed in the borehole by pads 16. The wheels are followed by the lead section 51 of a telescopic, sample collector 85. The apparatus is raised and lowered in the borehole by a cable 15 and includes means 90 for determining the inclination and orientation of the sample. In modifications the collector is formed by the closed lower end of the body, and the body is a framework.
