Abstract

1,014,469. Strip seals. REPUBLIC INDUSTRIAL CORPORATION. Oct. 21, 1964, No. 42946/64. Heading E1J In a sealing strip of the type comprising a flange-gripping straddle member constituted by a continuous inverted U-clip enclosed in a covering of rubber or plastic material the clip being so constituted to bend around sharp curvatures, and a closed flexible tubular sealing member 12 connected to the straddle member in spaced parallel relationship thereto, the wall of the tubular member 12 has a vent hole 26 for the insertion into the tube at end locations where it is apt to crimp, a foamable polymerisable resin composition, eg. polyurethene foam and allowing it to polymerise foam to form an elastomeric body 27 extending in each direction in the tube from the vent hole, and filling the interior of the tubular member to maintain the normal cross-sectional contour thereof and resist crimping of the walls when bent. The ends of the expanding foam material air harden and form hardened, skin encased plugs 29 which serve in confining the injected foam material to a small volume and enables the resin to completely fill the tube between the plugs which are readily pushed along the tube rather than allow the section of the tube to expand. Suitable polyurethene resinous compositions are described in U.S. patent Specifications 2,779,689; 2,787,601; 2,811,493 and 2,817,226.
