Abstract

1,014,430. Acoustic control. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Nov. 9, 1964 [Sept. 30, 1963], No. 38479/63. Heading G4F. [Also in Division E2] An acoustically controlled closure member is moved into a closed position in response to noise levels above some predetermined datum, and returns to the open position when the noise level drops below the datum. A double-glazed window 11 is normally held in one of a number of open positions as determined by a selector switch 12a which controls an hydraulic actuator 12. Loud sounds, for example from an aircraft, are detected by microphone 15 and fed through a selective amplifier 16 to operate a relay 18. Relay 18 supplies H.T. to operate relay 20, and contact 20b supplies power from source 22 to operate motor 14 in the " shunt " direction. When the sound level drops below the predetermined datum relay 18 releases, but relay 20 is held in via an H.T. supply from the delay network 21, over contact 20a. At the end of the delay period contact 20b changes over to supply power to operate motor 14 in the " open " direction.
