Abstract

The invention comprises azo dyes of formula <FORM:1013580/C4-C5/1> wherein A is an aromatic radical which may contain, in ortho-position to the azo group, a metallizable substituent or one which is convertible thereto under metallizing conditions and X is a reactive group (i.e. reacting with the hydroxyl groups of cellulose to form a covalent bond) and copper complexes thereof. The dyes may be prepared by coupling a diazotized amine A-NH2 with 1-(61-aminonaphthyl-(21)-41, 81-disulphonic acid) - 3 - methyl - 5 - pyrazolone and condensing the aminoazo dye so formed with a bifunctional reactive component such as 2,3 -dichloroquinoxaline - 6 - carboxylic acid or sulphonic acid chloride, cyanuric chloride, tri-or tetra-chloropyrimidine and 2-methoxy- or -phenylmercapto - 4,6 - dichlorotriazine. The condensation step may precede the coupling reaction. The dyes may be coppered in usual manner before or after the condensation reaction. The dyes give yellow to red shades on cellulose materials in the presence of acid-binding agents. Specification 841,413 is referred to.
