Abstract

Aerosol compositions comprise fluocinolone acetonide and citric acid together with a propellant, e.g. a mixture of sym-dichlorotetrafluoroethane and dichlorodifluoromethane. An antibiotic, e.g. neomycin, may be incorporated in the compositions, which are suitable for the treatment of inflammatory dermatoses. The citric acid acts as a preservative for the fluocinolone acetonide.ALSO:Pharmaceutical compositions suitable for the treatment of inflammatory dermatoses comprise fluocinolone acetonide i.e. 6a , 9a -difluoro-11b , 21-dihydroxy-16a , 17a -isopropylidenedioxypregna-1, 4-diene-3, 20-dione and citric acid in admixture with non-toxic pharmaceutical excipients. The compositions may be in the form of creams, emulsions, ointments, solutions or suspensions and they may contain an antibiotic e.g. neomycin. The solutions or suspensions may be formulated as self-propelled sprays using aerosol propellents. The citric acid reduces the decomposition of fluocinolone acetonide in the compositions.
