Abstract

101,311. Webster, E. E. March 17, 1916. Shutters.-A device for actuating a shutter automatically after a predetermined time-interval comprises a cylinder 5 containing a piston 7 actuated by a spring 12 under the control of air escaping from an adjustable port in the cylinder. The device is primarily for use in connexion with a flexible cable release 1 and has fingers 15 which engage the stationary flange 17. In the form shown in Fig. 2. the piston 7 is carried by a barrel 8 having slots to accommodate screws 10, which project from the cylinder 5 and carry a cross-piece 10<a> which forms an abutment for the spring 12 and carries a screw 10<b>. As shown, the device is set, and when released, the spring 12 forces the cross-piece 10<a> &c. upwards until the screw 10<b> engages the head 3 of the cable and releases the shutter. In the modification shown in Fig. 5, the piston 7 is secured to a rod 19 on which is loosely carried a rectangular frame 21. When a catch 13 is released, the cylinder 5 is forced upwards and engages and lifts the frame 21 to bring it into contact with the head 3 and release the shutter. The air port is regulated by a screw 6.
