Abstract

1,011,724. Switching magnetic playback heads; television. RANK-BUSH MURPHY Ltd. Feb. 18, 1963 [Feb. 19, 1962], No. 6296/62. Heading G5R. In playing back television video signals from transverse magnetic tape tracks by succession of revoluble heads, the head switching occurs during the " front porch" of the blanking period, resulting in both the synchronizing pulse and the following video information being played back by the same head from the same partial track. The usual photo-electrically-derived headposition pulses A provide that only those synch.- pulses B shown * are associated with a pulse generator via known feedback/error-detection means to produce the pulses C to gate the headswitching waveform D. Switching of the (four) heads consequently occurs at time intervals t 1 before the next-occurring synch.-pulse that are small compared with the pulse-intervals. The corresponding portions of signal switched to the output by the respective heads are as indicated by the timing of the pulses shown in E, F, G, H. Specification 1,011,723 describing a circuit arrangement for ensuring correct phasing of the waveform D is referred to. A block diagram of the system (Fig. 1, not shown) and circuits of a logical system of interconnected transistors producing the required waveforms and gatings (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) are described in detail.
