Spring wheels with pneumatic, rubber-ring, and like cushions and hubs. - The pneumatic cushion 26 is carried bv a seating member 19 of bronze, freely rotatable about a steel bearing-member 9. The member 19 is in two parts, each formed with a pair of flanges 18 enclosing lubricant and resting upon conical surfaces formed on the two-part member 9. The thick cover of the cushion has a cylindrical periphery 54 which supports a hollow spoke-ring 40, formed integral with the spokes 41 and having transverse sleeves 45. Passing through the sleeves, and of less diameter, are soft rubber buffers 53 secured to bushes 52 of antifriction metal rotatable about bolts 48 carried by side plates on the axle-box. The outer side plate consists of a member 32 permanently held by nuts 51 on the bolts, and of a member 31 which is detachably secured at its outer edge by means of caps 55 covering the nuts 51 and held by other nuts 61. Each cap has a flattened part extending its whole depth across one side, and diametrically opposite is a notch or step fitting over the edge of the detachable plate. By loosening the outer nuts and partly rotating the caps, the plate can be slid across the flattened parts and removed. On the axle-box is a ring-nut 38 which further secures the plate 31. Holes 36 in the plate for obtaining access to the valve are covered bv a plate 37. The wheel can be locked and made rigid by inserting studs through sleeves 64 in the spoke-ring and into depressions 65 in the inner side plate.
