Abstract

101,121. Marzio, A. March 25, 1916. Overlays and make-ready arrangements. - An overlay is prepared by making an impression on a thin non-absorbent sheet and spreading thereon a resinous granular material, such as colophony, free from powder, which is fixed bv the viscous ink in proportion to the density of the ink at the various parts of the sheet. The superfluous granular material is then brushed off or otherwise removed, and a fine inert powder, such as pumice or chalk, is applied to fill up the interstices in the granular substance and protect it. The prepared sheet is then calendered or pressed without heat or moisture. Several sheets so treated may be used in superposition; or the sheet may be similarly treated in register on both sides. The granular material is such that it will pass through a sieve of 40 meshes to the sq. cm., but not through one of 100 meshes to the sq. cm.
