Abstract

A soft roll for a supercalender for paper has a surface comprising a synthetic, resinous, thermoplastic material, e.g. a polyaryl carbonate formed by reaction between bisphenol-A and phosgene. It may comprise an inner shaft and a cover of the thermoplastic material. A supercalender for paper may comprise alternate soft rolls as above and hard rolls with the usual fly rolls and doctor blades.
