In a pulse phase modulated radio receiver the signal-to-noise ratio is improved by designing the frequency response curve of the stages between the receiver input and the pulse detector proportional to the spectrum envelope of the received signal and including between the pulse detector and the phase detector limiter stage a circuit having a response proportional to frequency. The output of the receiver input amplifier 1, having a response proportional to the spectrum envelope of the received signal, is applied via pulse detector 2 to a differentiating circuit 3 having a response proportional to frequency and thence via a limiting stage 4 to a phase detector 5.
