Roller bearings. - Double-row roller bearings with conical rollers 4 are provided with a distancering or other spacing-device 5 which bears on a plane surface at the end of each roller 4 in oroximity to its axis only. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the inner race 1 is spherical, and the spacing-ring 5 bears on the reduced plane ends of the rollers 4 and has lateral wings 6 which space the rollers apart. The rollers on opposite sides of the ring 5, Fig. 4, are alternately journaled on pivots 7 connected to the ring 5, and also to conical rings 8, by riveting or by wires 9 passed through holes in their ends In a modification of the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, each pivot 7 may carry a pair of opposite rollers 4, 4, and in another form, the pivots are dispensed with and the ring 5 is surrounded by a sheet-metal cage ring with apertures for spacing the rollers 4. The ring 5 may have lateral circular projections bearing on the flat ends of the rollers 4, or may be replaced by a cage carrying loose balls bearing on the centres of the rollers. Each outer race may consist of two or more conical segments, as indicated by the dotted line 15, Fig. 1, or be of less width than the roller, as shown in Fig. 12. and the inner and outer races may all be straight or curved in cross-section, or some curved and the remainder straight. The outer race may consist of two separate rings held together by an outer ring, as shown, for example, in Fig. 15, in which the rings 21, 22 fit inside a ring 2 having a spherical inner surface and lateral openings through which the rings 21, 22 carrying the other parts of the bearing can be inserted. Instead of being of truncated conical form the ends of the rollers may be spherical. In all cases the rollers bear against accurately ground plane or spherical faces on the ring 5.
