Abstract

1,009,942. Moulding-machines. HERMAN PNEUMATIC MACHINE CO. June 5, 1962 [June 19, 1961 (4)], No. 21626/62. Heading B3F. A method of forming a mould, particularly a pipe mould, comprises moving a former through mould-forming material in an elongated flask to thereby form an elongated cavity longitudinally of the flask and compacting the mould forming material. The flask 2, Fig. 1, is mounted vertically over the former 22 which is carried for vertical movement by a piston 25. The hub and spigot ends of the mould are additionally compressed by patterns 36, 39 carried by pistons 40 and 11 respectively. In a modification, Fig. 2, the hub pattern 39a is moved during the final part of the stroke of the former 22a by abutment means 43 which engage the spring-loaded pattern carrier 11a. In anther modification the former is hollow and hos an open nose and outlet ports so that some af the sand displaced by the former may be ejected so that a predetermined degree of compactioon may be selected by selection of the appropriate former. In another modification, the former is pulled through the flask from above. Specification 650,683 is referred to.
