Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:1009307/C2/1> or their non-toxic acid addition salts, wherein R1 and R2 each represent hydrogen or C1- 3 alkoxy, or together C1- 3-alkylenedioxy; R3 and R4 each represent hydrogen or C1- 3-alkyl; and A represents C2- 5-alkylene and the preparation thereof by reacting a compound of the formula <FORM:1009307/C2/2> with a compound capable of forming with the primary amino group of the starting material, by condensation or addition, a guanidino group, and, if desired, converting a base formed into its acid addition salt. Compounds of formula II are prepared by reacting an appropriate 1,2,3,4,5,6-hexa-hydrobenzo[d]azocine with an haloalkylnitrile to form the corresponding nitrile and hydrogenating the latter. Pharmaceutical compositions comprise the compounds of formula I together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and may be in a form for oral (e.g. tablets or dragees) or parenteral administration. The compounds are antihypertensive agents.
