Abstract

Polyolefins, e.g. polypropylene, obtained by using a catalyst comprising a transition metal compound in which the metal is in a valency state lower than normal, and an organometallic compound of Groups I, II or III of the Mendeleeff Periodic Table are purified by washing with an alkaline alcoholic solution in the presence of molecular oxygen or a substance capable of releasing oxygen, e.g. a peroxy compound. The alcoholic solution may be methanol containing sodium methylate. The preferred catalyst is TiCl3+Al(C2H5)3.
