Abstract

1,008,739. Pulse discriminating circuits. MARCONI CO. Ltd. June 1, 1962 [Sept. 8, 1961], No. 32271/61. Heading H3T. In a synchronizing pulse separator for television equipment, the composite line and field synchronizing pulses are integrated in a capacitor K so that only the longer-duration field pulses result in the capacitor charging sufficiently to trigger a negative resistance semi-conductor device. As shown, positive - going line and field pulses at terminal A are integrated by resistor R 1 , capacitor K and diode D. Only the longer-duration field pulses charge capacitor K sufficiently to trigger the unijunction transistor, giving an output pulse at C. Capacitor K now discharges via resistor R 3 , the time constant being such that the diode D is rendered non-conductive for the duration of the sequence of field synchronizing pulses. This ensures that only one output pulse is provided at C for each sequence of field pulses. In Fig. 1 (not shown), diode D is omitted, the circuit executing a series of sawtooth oscillations during the sequence of field pulses. In Fig. 6 (not shown), composite pulses derived from a high impedance source, are fed directly to capacitor K, the remote end of resistor R 1 being connected to a point of constant potential so as to provide temperature compensation. In Fig. 5 (not shown), the unijunction transistor is replaced by a four-layer diode.
