Abstract

1,007,428. Winches. LAURENCE-COLEBROOK (CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT) CO. Ltd. July 10, 1964 [Aug. 16, 1963], No. 32575/63. Heading B8B. [Also in Division F2] In a winch comprising a pair of drums 11, Fig. 3, each independently driven from one or more hydraulic motors 12 in closed circuits with corresponding hydraulic pumps 16, means is provided to combine the outputs of both of the pumps 16 to drive a single drum. The pumps 16 are of the reversible flow type providing a continuously variable speed and are coupled to pairs of motors 12 via shuttle valves 39, Fig. 4, which divert the flow of the return fluid to filters 41 and check valves 37 or 38 according to the direction of flow for lifting or lowering operations. Valves 28 and 29 actuated by solenoid operated control valve 44 are arranged to combine the flows from the two pumps 16 and cross over the lines 31 for selection of the drum to be driven. An auxiliary pump 19 provides pressure for the control system. Counterbalance valves 23 are arranged in the circuit to permit flow in the direction for lowering under power but preventing flow on overrun. High pressure relief valves 34 operate in conjunction with the check valves 35-38 in either direction of flow.
