Abstract

Liquid hydrocarbon gasoline mixtures are produced by separating a gasoline or gasoline fraction obtained from the cracking of hydrocarbon oils boiling above the gasoline range into a relatively light fraction which has a final boiling point in the range 75-95 DEG C. and a relatively heavy fraction which has an initial boiling in the range 75-95 DEG C., separating the relatively heavy fraction at least in parts into an aromatic concentrate suitable as gasoline or a blending component therefor and a raffinate, and subjecting the relatively light fraction and/or the raffinate at least in part to catalytic hydrogenation isomerization at 200-485 DEG C. and 10-100 atmospheres absolute in the presence of hydrogen or a hydrogen containing gas, the catalyst being a sulphide of at least one metal of the left-hand column of Group VI and/or a sulphide of one or more metals of Group VIII deposited on a solid acidic support having catalytic properties. The separation of the relatively heavy fraction may be effected with a selective solvent e.g. a glycolic solvent, a sulpholane solvent or a paraffinic counter solvent. Catalyst supports specified are alumina and/or silica. Specifications 625,505 and 659,241 are referred to.
