Abstract
1,006,766. Fracture fixing nails. A. S. GIDLUND. May 26, 1964, No. 21782/64. Heading A5R. A fracture fixing nail 1 is adjustably connected to a support member 7 by a ball joint which may be locked to fix the nail and the support member in adjusted relative positions. A nail for fixing a fractured femoral neck has a conical outermost end 2 having a threaded extension carrying a nut 3. A ball 4 having a conical bore is received on the conical end of the nail and has slits 5 extending from the widest towards the narrowest end of the bore. The support member 7, which has holes 8 for securing it with nails or screws to the outside of the femur, has a socket 6 surrounding the ball and adjustable relative to it. The support member is locked relative to the nail by screwing the nut against the ball, which is thus forced over a wider portion of the conical end of the nail and expands to fix the socket. The socket and the ball have rough interengaging surfaces.
