Abstract
1315220 Bone nails A FISCHER 2 Oct 1970 [3 Oct 1969 29 Dec 1969] 46962/70 Heading A5R [Also in Division F2] A bone connecting device comprises a tubular dowel pin 2 provided with a screw cap 5 and an expansible portion 3 that is operated by expansioin peg 7. A pin is inserted into the neck of the femur and the stainless steel dowel pin 2 is pressed into the bone over this first pin which may then be removed. Turning screw 8 pulls the expansion peg 7 thus opening the expansible portion 3 and anchoring the device in the head of the femur. The broken parts of the bone are then drawn together by screwing the cop 5 onto the threaded part 4 of the dowel pin. Sympathetic rotation of the dowel pin is prevented by the provision of radial fins 10. A resilient sheath 14 is fitted over the extensible portion 3 and this may be removed together with the device when the fracture has healed. An alternative embodiment provided with a fusiform expansion peg is disclosed in (Fig. 2).
