Abstract

1,006,302. Selective signalling. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 13, 1963 [Dec. 18, 1962], No. 49352/63. Heading G4H. A magnetic core decoder of the type in which to select a single output winding, current is passed through a combination of input conductors, so threading a plurality of cores so that their inductive effects cancel except in the selected output winding, is characterized in that (a) each input-conductor is connected in series with a unidirectional conductive element, (b) both the input ends and the output ends of the input-conductors are connected in a number of groups to a number of switches and in that (c) to cause current to pass through a selected combination of input-conductors selected switches at both their input and output ends are energized. As shown in Fig. 1 sixteen input-conductors 10-25 are connected at their top (input) ends to switches 52, 53, 54, 55 in groups of four, and, at their bottom (output) ends, via diodes, to switches 56, 57, 58, 59 in four different groups of four. To select a particular one of the nine output windings 35-43 two switches from each group of four are energized. The arrangement is such that it is possible to produce output pulses of either polarity in any of the output windings. In a modification, Fig. 3, the input-conductors are connected to two groups of four switches as in Fig. 1, but each output winding threads several cores. The result is that selection of two switches in each group effectively selects two cores in the same row but their output pulses cancel except in a single output winding.
