Pencil-holders.-A lead carrier l and a lead ejector m, Fig. 1, attached respectively to threaded disks p, q engaging an internal thread e on the pencil case, are moved together to feed the end by rotating the head b of the case; when the disk p reaches the plain part f of the bore of the case the ejector moves on alone and expels the lead; on reversing the direction of rotation of the head, the ejector moves back until its extremity r engages a pin n on the carrier, whereupon the carrier and ejector again move together. The carrier and ejector are connected to the disks by means of pins n, o passing through a slot h in a tube g rigidly attached to the head b. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, the pins n, o are connected by a loop t which may work in the slot h of the tube g, the abutment r being dispensed with. In a modification, the disks p, q are replaced by spirals, the coils of which engage the thread e of the case. In a further modification, Fig. 6, the thread e is formed on the exterior of the tube g which is secured to a cap b<1>, the members p, q being oval in shape and working in the correspondingly shaped bore of the case, and the pins n, o work in grooves n', o' in the members.
