Abstract

Dyestuffs which are intermediates in the preparation of light sensitive diazotype materials have the formula <FORM:1005899/C4-C5/1> wherein R1 and R2 are alkyl or R1R2N is heterocyclic, R3 is alkyl, R4 is alkoxy, alkyl or halogen and when it is alkoxy it may join with R3 forming a ring, X being the aromatic residue of the diazonium salt used to prepare the dyestuffs by a coupling reaction.ALSO:The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:1005899/C2/1> wherein R1 and R2 are alkyl or R1R2N is heterocyclic, R3 is alkyl, R4 is alkoxy, alkyl or halogen and when it is alkoxy it may join with R3 forming a ring, X being the anion of the diazonium salt. The compounds are prepared by diazotizing the parent amine in acid solution with nitrous acid and precipitating as a salt or as a double salt of a metal. The preparation of specified parent amines by conventional methods is described.
