Abstract
1,004,810. Locking bolts. NYLOK CORPORATION. Aug. 24, 1964, No. 34523/64. Heading F2H. [Also in Division B3] A bolt has a punched groove 13, Fig. 2, in which is tightly engaged a strip 14 of resilient material such as nylon or synthetic rubber in which are embedded shavings 21, Fig. 5, integral with the bolt. After punching the groove 13, another punch 22 is used to de-burr the groove edges and produce the anchoring shavings 21. A further punch 24 and a compression die 25 are then used to cut an insert from a strip 23, compress it laterally and push it into the groove. The punch 24 then compresses the insert 14 so that it expands laterally into the groove. A still further punch is then used to bevel the ends of the insert and may also form a part-thread 15 on it. The thread 15 extends beyond the crests of the bolt thread 12. If there is no thread 15, the insert face extends at least beyond the roof of the thread 12. Spaces 28 are left by the shavings 21 at the bottom of the groove.
