Abstract

1,004,267. Electrostatic spray gun. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. Dec. 13, 1961 [Dec. 14, 1960 ; Dec. 23, 1960], No. 44637/61. Heading B2F. In a hand spray gun spray material is withdrawn therefrom and atomized solely by the action of electrostatic forces. In Fig. 1, liquid spray material is circulated through a spray head 1 from an input pipe 11 to an output pipe 12 and is allowed to wet the edges of a longitudinally disposed gap 3, Fig. 3, by tilting the head, the liquid in the gap being drawn off and atomized by the action of an electrostatic field, in the direction of lines 6. The gap 3 may be in the form of a slot or a row of bores. The container may be of metal and connected to the negative pole of a H.V. source while the article to be sprayed is connected to the positive pole which is earthed. Alternatively the edges of the gap only may be electrically conductive. In an embodiment, Fig. 6, the liquid is not circulated and the container 23 acts as a reservoir. In a further embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), the container is in the form of an open topped bowl or tray having an elongated discharge edge and between the bowl and the handle there is an insulating shield.
