Abstract

Unsaturated polyester resins are copolymerized with cyclopent-2-enyl ethers of hydroxylic compounds to produce film-forming materials. The hydroxylic compound may be a mono-, di- or polyhydric hydroxylic compound. There may also be present a polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monomer. In the Examples: (1) an unsaturated polyester formed from fumaric acid, phthalic anhydride and propylene glycol is copolymerized with (a) 1-cyclopent - 2 - enoxy - 3 : 5 : 5 - trimethylhexane or (b) 1,4 - dicyclopent - 21 - enoxybutane and styrene and (2) an unsaturated polyester formed from fumaric and adipic acids and propylene glycol is copolymerized with (a) 1,4-dicyclopent-21-enoxybutane or (b) 1,2-dicyclopent-211-enoxyethane or (c) polycyclopent-2-enyl ether of tetraglycerol. The normal catalysts, accelerators, thinning agents and pigments may be added. Specification 989,001 is referred to.
