Abstract

1,002,351. Photo-electric flame monitoring. FUEL FIRING Ltd. June 21, 1962 [May 24, 1961], No. 18834/61. Heading G1A. [Also in Division F4] In a furnace flame monitoring device in which a photo-electric cell 2 views the flame position through an aperture 6 in the furnace or boiler wall 5 the cell is protected by a plate 3 of plain, heat barrier, filter, or neutral density glass. To oviate or reduce the need to clean the glass, particles of soot are caused to diverge from the observation path by means of a hollow frustro-conical member 7 placed between the glass and the flame with the aperture 18 in its apex nearest the flame and on the line of sight. In constructing the assembly hinges may be provided between sections of the cell support structure at 17 and 20 to allow for access for maintenance.
